Charity
I was approached by a teacher, Clare Webster working in Uganda, to ask if I could sell some of my resources to her as she was working with a nursery in Uganda and my resources were exactly what she was looking for. I asked for some more details and it was clearly apparent that the work Clare was doing was obviously for a very worthwhile cause. Clare had spent the time mailing me and I happily agreed to donate a number of my resources free of charge. These were give with the promise of more when she had these printed out, laminated and in use in the nursery.
I am also going through boxes of teaching resources to find other suitable equipment that the orphanage may find useful. The nursery is run as 3 classes from age 2-6. It is run as part of the orphanage which is called Mama Janes and is located in Jinja- a town on Lake Victoria.

The purpose of the fund is to raise money for various projects which have included painting the orphanage and providing some equipment for the nursery as well as other projects in other areas such as building a school out in the village of Kawanga. They also arrange for people to sponsor children at the orphanage so that they can go to a better school.
Clare is using my resource packs to work with the teachers of the nursery in trying to encourage them to tell more stories and use resources alongside such as the story packs to be more interactive with the children rather than just talk at them. She is also trying to get them to display more as there is often a mindset in Uganda that they don’t want to put stuff on the walls because it will get spoilt! The teachers are young and keen and are open to suggestions.
Clare has said she will send me some pictures of the resources in use so keep an eye out!
